Boys Volleyball Playoffs
Brackets and quarterfinal sites for the 2016 LL League Boys Volleyball playoffs are set.
At Hempfield:
Section 1 Champion Hempfield vs Section 2 4th place Cocalico, 6 pm
Section 2 Runner Up Lancaster Mennonite vs Section 1 3rd place Manheim Township, 7:30 pm
At Ephrata:
Section 1 Runner Up Penn Manor vs Section 2 3rd place Manheim Central, 6 pm
Section 2 Champion Ephrata vs Section 1 4th place Warwick, 7:30 pm
Semifinals are Monday 5/16 at Garden Spot
Finals are Wednesday 5/18 at Manheim Township
Softball Playoffs
If you love the minutiae of sports rules, this post is for you.
The top 2 teams from each section will play in Saturday’s Softball quarterfinals.
Here is the breakdown for each section:
- Section 1 – Penn Manor has won the section; Hempfield has secured 2nd place.
- Section 2 – Solanco is 12-3 & Etown is 11-3. Solanco and Etown play Wednesday (weather permitting, naturally). If Solanco wins, they are section champs and Etown is second. If Etown beats both Solanco and Ephrata (scheduled Thursday), they are the champs, and Solanco is 2nd. If Etown beats Solanco and loses to Ephrata, there is a tie for first place. In that event, the tiebreaker game would be scheduled for 4:15 at a neutral site on Friday… unless, Wednesday’s Etown/Solanco regular season game is postponed and rescheduled for Friday. If that occurs, more details will follow later.
- Section 3 – LS is the champion; Donegal is 13-3 and completed their schedule, & MC is 13-2 and plays LS Wednesday. If MC beats LS, MC becomes the 2nd place team and qualifies for leagues. If LS beats MC, MC and Donegal will both be 13-3 in league play, and we need to go to the 2nd-place tie-breaker criteria which is as follows…
- A – ) Head-to-head – MC and Donegal split
- B – ) Section record – An LS win over MC would put both teams at 7-3 in section play.
- C – ) Vs Section Champ – An LS win Wednesday would make both MC and Donegal 0-2 vs LS.
- D – ) Power Rankings – Donegal is at 0.698 right now; MC is at 0.673. If MC loses forcing the tie, their power ranking will not improve; therefore, based on tie-breaker criteria D, Donegal will be the second place team from section 3 if LS beats MC Wednesday.
- Section 4 – AC is 10-4 and PV is 11-4. Annville plays Wednesday and Thursday; PV plays Wednesday. If both teams win the rest of the games or both lose one game, there will be a tie. In the event of a tie, a tie-breaker will be held on Friday at 4:15 at Warwick. If the weather forces regular season games to be pushed back to Friday, more details will follow later.

Jr High Track and Field Coaches Meet
Junior High Track and Field teams from across the League will converge on Hempfield Thursday afternoon for the annual Coaches’ meet.
These are the preliminary seedings for the event. These seedings and lane assignments can and will change on the day of the Meet if athletes withdraw from events.
Girls Lacrosse Playoffs Set
With just one more game to play in the regular season, the Girls Lacrosse League playoff bracket is set. Elizabethtown plays Garden Spot on Monday, but win or lose, the Bears are the #4 seed by virtue of a head to head tiebreaker.
The playoffs open Tuesday at Warwick:
- #2 seed Hempfield vs. #3 seed Lancaster Country Day at 5 pm
- #1 seed Manheim Township vs. #4 seed Elizabethtown to follow at 7 pm
Finals will be on 5/12 as part of a Boys & Girls Lacrosse Championship double header, ladies first at 5 pm at Conestoga Valley.
Boys Lacrosse Playoff Picture
The Boys Lacrosse playoffs were scheduled to be decided this past week, but Mother Nature had other plans. Here’s what is certain:
- Manheim Township, 12-0 in the league, is the #1 seed and section champion.
- Hempfield, 11-1 in the league, is the #2 seed.
- Lampeter-Strasburg, 10-2 in the league, is the #3 seed.
- The #4 seed is Warwick or Garden Spot, pending the outcome of the Elizabethtown vs Garden Spot on Monday, rescheduled from Friday 5/6:
- If Garden Spot wins, Garden Spot is the #4 seed at 8-4 in the league, holding the head to head tiebreaker over the Warriors.
- If Elizabethtown wins, Warwick is the #4 seed at 8-4 in the league, holding the head to head tiebreaker over the Bears.
Semifinals are scheduled for Tuesday, 5/10 at Penn Manor. Hempfield vs Lampeter-Strasburg will be at 5 pm, Manheim Township vs Warwick/Garden Spot to follow at 7pm.
Girls Lacrosse Playoff Picture
Four games remain in the LL League Girls Lacrosse regular season, so just a few If-Thens remain to determine playoff positions:
- # 1 seed is Manheim Township
- # 2 seed will either be Lancaster Country Day or Hempfield
- If Hempfield beats Conestoga Valley on Friday they will be 9-2 in league play, tying them with LCDS. Hempfield beat LCDS on 4/13 so they would get the #2 seed and LCDS would get the #3 seed.
- If Hempfield loses to CV, they would be 8-3. If Elizabethtown beats GS they would be 8-3. Hempfield beat Elizabethtown on 4/5 which would give Hempfield the #3 seed.
- #4 seed will be Elizabethtown. If Elizabethton loses to GS and Penn Manor beats Warwick they both would be 7-4. Elizabethtown beat Penn Manor on 5/3 which would still give Elizabethtown the #4 seed.
Final seedings and semifinal details will be posted this weekend.
Boys Tennis Flight Tournaments Concluded
The 2016 edition of the Lancaster Lebanon League Boys Tennis Flight Tournaments squeezed between multiple rainy days and finally reached a conclusion.
In the singles brackets, Griffin Clark of Manheim Township prevailed in the AAA Flight 1 finals, 6-4, 6-4. Tommy Moran of Lancaster Catholic came from behind to with the AA championship, 4-6, 7-6 (2), 6-2.
The double brackets spread the Flight 1 wins to other schools as Tull & Muraika of Cedar Crest won an 8 Game Pro Set 8-7 (9) to repeat as AAA champions. Zern and Ashley of Donegal won their set 8-6 to claim AA gold.

Boys Tennis Flight Tournament Update
The weather got in the way, but many matches were completed in the first round of the LL League Boys Tennis Flight Tournament. Doubles in Flight 1 (AAA and AAA) and Flight 2 were not played today due to the rain. Two rounds of singles in all flights and 1 round of doubles in Flight 3 were finished.
Play will resume at 8:15 AM on Saturday, 4/30 at Conestoga Valley. Due to the unfavorable forecast for Monday, singles brackets for Flight 1 both AAA and AA will be completed on Saturday (these need to be completed for District 3 seeding). All other flights will play as scheduled.
Hempfield wins Boys Tennis Crown
The Hempfield Boys Tennis team came away with the LL League Team Championship, escaping the rain and the Blue Streaks winning 3-0
- #1 Singles: Calvin Athey (H) vs Griffin Clark (MT) 6-2, 4-6, ended due to rain
- #2 Singles: Jay Cooke (H) vs Tom Chairs (MT) 4-6, 6-1, ended due to rain
- #3 Singles: Jake Curtin (H) DEF James Noel (MT) 6-3, 6-1
- #1 Doubles: Nick Aksu & Jack Kessinger (H) DEF Arvin Xia & Carson Schreiber (MT) 6-1, 6-1
- #2 Doubles: Ben Cooke & Andrew Virts (H) DEF TJ Kade & Tom Woratyla (MT) 6-1, 6-1
With the Hempfield victory assured when the rain started, #1 Singles and #2 Singles will not be completed. There is the potential for a re-match between Athey and Clark as they are the #1 and #2 seeds in the AAA Singles Flight tournament that starts Thursday.
