The format for the 2016 League Basketball Championships will be as follows:

Boys’ Basketball Playoffs
Quarterfinals: Saturday February 6 @ Section Champs (game time determined by host school based on gym availability)
Semifinals: Tuesday February 9 @ Neutral Sites (7:00 PM)
Finals: Thursday February 11 @ Manheim Township HS (7:00 PM)

Girls’ Basketball Playoffs
Quarterfinals: Monday February 8 @ Section Champs (7:00 PM)
Semifinals: Wednesday February 10 @ Neutral Sites (7:00 PM)
Finals: Friday February 12 @ Warwick/Annville Cleona (7:00 PM)

2016 Basketball Playoff Brackets

In the event of a tie between two(2) teams, a one(1) game playoff will be played to determine the Section Champion. These games will take place on Thursday February 4 at neutral site(s). Should any ties exist with any teams other than first place, the following criteria, in priority order, will be used:

1. Head to Head Competition
2. Record within the Section (crossover games do not count)
3. District 3 Power Rating
4. Coin Flip

A big congratulations is due to Mr. Anthony Hall and the Golden Mules of Solanco.  The Mules brought home a Section 2 championship in golf and were Co-Champions of Section 2 in football.  More importantly to the mission of interscholastic sports, they have been awarded the 2015 Fall Sportsmanship award as voted on by the Athletic Directors of the Lancaster-Lebanon League.   Good job Solanco!

Section 1 Champion Hempfield rolled to their 7th straight Lancaster Lebanon League championship in girls volleyball and 17th overall tonight at Manheim Township.

Runner Up and Section 2 Champion Garden Spot played tough in the first set before falling 26-24.  The Knights rode a 13-3 run in set 2 to top the Spartans 25-14 before finishing the sweep in set 3 with a 25-21 win.

Tonight was a busy night for league championship games as Field Hockey and Boys and Girls Soccer all saw new teams hoisting the trophy.

Girls Soccer went first, with Elizabethtown blanking Conestoga Valley 2-0.  This is the first league championship in girls soccer for the Bears and the first section 2 team to nab the top spot since girls soccer moved to the fall.

In Field Hockey, Donegal won 1-0 holding defending champion Penn Manor  scoreless for the first time all season.  Donegal enters the district playoffs undefeated.

In Boys Soccer, Conestoga Valley held on as Hempfield rallied late but couldn’t muster the second goal.  The Buckskins won by a final of 2-1.

It came down to the last night of the regular season for some teams, but Girls Volleyball is ready for the post season.  Quarterfinals are Friday, October 23rd.

There was a 3-way tie for second place in Section 3.  All three split the first tie-breaker: head to head in section play.  The next tie breaker is the numerical value of the District 3 power ratings as determined at 8 a.m. on Thursday, October 22nd.

That being said:  at 8:03 am Cocalico had a rating of .539553; Northern Lebanon had a rating of .536251; ELCO had a rating of .494846.

Cocalico is the second seed from section 3.

At Lancaster Mennonite:

• Section 1 Champion Hempfield vs Section 2 3rd place Lampeter Strasburg, 6 pm
• Section 3 Champion Lancaster Mennonite vs Section 1 3rd place Manheim Township, 7:30 pm

At Garden Spot:

• Section 2 Champion Garden Spot vs Section 3 runner up Cocalico, 4 pm
• Section 1 runner up Warwick vs Section 2 runner up Elizabethtown at 5:30 pm

Semifinals are Monday, October 26th at Garden Spot, match times 6 and 7:30 pm with Finals at Manheim Township on October 28th at 7 pm.

Six Semifinals all in 1 night.  Twelve teams entered, 6 teams will enter the finals.

The 2015 edition of the League Cross Country Championships are in the books.  On the boys side, it was more of the same; for the girls, some new faces.  Ladies first:

Cocalico sophomore Jamie Zamrin won, breaking the tape in 19:19.9.  Senior Samantha Shields of Warwick was second, senior Molly Conrad of Hempfield rounded out the top 3.  Full results courtesy Motion Timing here:  2015 Girls XC Results.

In team standings, Manheim Township nabbed the top spot, putting 5 in the top 25 and scoring 78.  Hempfield followed with 115 and Donegal was third with 130.  Full team results here:  2015 Girls XC Team Results

 

On the boys side, Junior Nathan Henderson of McCaskey shaved nearly 45 seconds off of last year’s winning time, crossing the line in 15:47.8.  Junior Zach Lefever of Ephrata broke 16 minutes as well; Senior Justin Yurchak of Hempfield rounded out the top 3.  Full results are here:  2015 Boys XC Results

Hempfield retained the top spot in the team standings, placing 3 in the top 10 and SEVEN in the top 25 scoring a scant 52 points.  Penn Manor was runner up with 117, narrowly out pacing Cedar Crest in third with 121.  Full team results here:  2015 Boys XC Team Results
